Lerner Chase, a girl who's lonely at school, finds a word-eating worm to keep her company. When she realizes that every word that Fip eats disappears from the world completely, she has to make big decisions about how to use this incredible power.
This read-aloud would spark great discussions about peer pressure, befriending and understanding a classmate with few friends, and the impact of our decisions. Fascinating discussions could also stem from asking students which words they would let Fip eat and what the actual (unintended) consequences would be!
