Bear tries to tell a story to animal after animal, but they are all getting ready for winter, so he helps them instead. In the spring, the animals help Bear piece together his story and serve as an eager audience. This is an outstanding book for discussing how sometimes being a good friend means putting your own desires aside until later to help others. It would also make a great addition to units on the seasons.
