The Cloud Spinner by Michael Catchpool

Catchpool, Michael. The Cloud Spinner. New York: Alfred Knopf, 2012. 32p.

In this beautifully-illustrated story, a young boy has the ability to weave cloth out of clouds. Remembering his mother's motto, "Enough is enough and not one stitch more," he uses his talent to make only two scarves- one to protect his head from the summer sun and one to wrap around his neck during the cold winter. When the boy travels to the market, though, a greedy king sees one of the scarves. He orders the boy to weave many garments out of clouds for the royal family. Soon, there are no clouds left in the sky. Crops are dying and animals are thirsty. Will anyone rescue the environment?

This is an excellent story for generating discussions on conserving natural resources and reducing consumption.
