Although Homer is repeatedly asked to join adventures, he is content at home where his porch, food and (eventually!) family are.
Paired with All the Places to Love by Patricia MacLachlan, this book would lead to beautiful journal entries in which students could describe the place that makes them feel most comfortable or most at peace.
